Recognising Unconventional Leadership

The Direct Membership route acknowledges that some management professionals develop exceptional expertise through non‑traditional paths. This includes senior advisory roles, international development assignments, crisis management leadership, entrepreneurial ventures, or unique industry contributions. If your career does not fit neatly into the Experiential or Professional route criteria, this pathway offers a fair, rigorous, and individualised evaluation.

Candidates are assessed on a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates substantial organisational impact, ethical leadership, and professional competence – even without formal degrees or standard certifications.

Who Qualifies for Direct Membership

Examples of candidates who typically thrive on this pathway.

Senior Strategic Advisors

10+ years of direct influence on organisational strategy, policy, or industry regulation, with demonstrable impact on performance and growth.

NGO & Civil Society Leaders

Heads of non‑profit organisations or advocacy groups that have driven systemic change, managed large teams, and influenced policy at national or international level.

International Civil Servants

Professionals with significant management experience in international bodies (UN, World Bank, regional development banks, etc.), including project leadership and cross‑cultural team management.

Entrepreneurs & Innovators

Founders and business owners who have scaled enterprises, created jobs, and demonstrated strategic leadership outside traditional corporate hierarchies.

Portfolio Requirements

A comprehensive evidence file that tells the story of your leadership impact.

Professional History

A detailed CV or résumé highlighting management roles, responsibilities, and achievements over at least 8 years. Emphasis on progression, scope of authority, and key accomplishments.

Evidence of Impact

Tangible proof of your leadership: project reports, strategic plans you authored, media coverage, financial results, testimonials from stakeholders, or awards that demonstrate measurable change.

Letters of Endorsement

Two professional references from senior figures in management, industry, or academia who can vouch for your leadership calibre. SOME members may serve as referees.

Portfolio review takes approximately 4–6 weeks. You may be invited for a virtual interview with our membership panel.
