Our commitment
SOME champions ethical, inclusive leadership. We hold ourselves to the same standard: everyone – including people with visual, hearing, motor, cognitive and neurological disabilities – should be able to access our information and services on an equal basis.
This policy covers our website, the country selector, online application and prospectus forms, assessments and peer interviews, communications, chapters and events.
Standards we follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Meeting them also supports the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Nigeria’s Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018, and equivalent laws in other countries where our members live.
Accessibility features
Keyboard friendly
Menus, forms and the country selector work with the keyboard, with visible focus rings and a “Skip to main content” link.
Screen readers
Pages use headings, landmarks, labelled controls and alternative text for meaningful images.
Resizable text
Pages can be zoomed to 200% and reflow on small screens without losing content.
Readable design
Comfortable line lengths and colour combinations designed to meet contrast requirements.
Reduced motion
Sliders and animations are minimised when your device is set to reduce motion.
Responsive design
The website adapts to phones, tablets and desktops.
Assessment and interview accommodations
We provide reasonable adjustments so that every candidate can demonstrate their leadership experience fairly. Examples include:
- submitting your portfolio in an alternative format, or with extra time;
- a video, telephone or in-person interview, whichever suits you best;
- extra time and breaks during interviews;
- a sign-language interpreter, live captioning or a support person;
- written questions in advance where this does not affect fairness.
How to request an accommodation
- Tell us when you apply, ideally at least 21 days before any interview date.
- Describe the adjustment you need. We may ask for supporting information; we keep it strictly confidential and use it only for this purpose.
- We will confirm the arrangements in writing, normally within 10 business days.
Approved accommodations do not affect how your application is assessed, and they are never mentioned on your certificate or membership record.
Alternative formats and support
If you cannot access any content on our website, or you need a document such as the prospectus in another format (for example large print, an accessible Word document or plain text), please contact us. We will try to provide it within 10 business days, or tell you when it will be available.
We are also happy to help you complete application forms by email or by arranging a call if online forms are difficult for you to use.
Events and chapters
For conferences, chapter meetings and peer circles, we select accessible venues wherever possible and can arrange accessible seating, hearing loops, interpretation or live captioning on request. Please tell us about your needs when you register.
Known limitations
We are continuously improving, and some areas may not yet fully meet our standard, including:
- some downloadable documents, such as older PDFs, which we are replacing with accessible versions;
- automatically rotating sliders on some pages, which we are reviewing;
- third-party content, such as social media and embedded media, which we do not control.
If you encounter any of these, please contact us and we will provide the information in another way.
Feedback and complaints
We welcome your feedback. If you experience a barrier, please tell us:
- the web address (URL) of the page;
- a short description of the problem; and
- the device, browser and any assistive technology you were using.
We will acknowledge your message within 5 business days and aim to resolve it, or propose an alternative, within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may ask for it to be reviewed by the Standards Council.
Ongoing review
We review the accessibility of our website at least once a year, test new features with keyboard and screen-reader tools before launch, and brief our staff, assessors and chapter officers on accessible communication. This policy was last reviewed on the date shown at the top of this page.
